Miss Larolles is "inimitable." Miss Larolles is a "one of that numerous tribe of young ladies to whom all conversation is irksome in which they are not themselves engaged."

Miss. Larolles is a character from a novel by Fanny Burney's called Cecilia or, Memoirs of an Heiress. And its amusing that she compares herself to this character from a novel because she basically doing the exact same thing as the character Miss. Larolles who in the novel is "sitting outside on purpose" to wait until the person that she wanted to talk to would stroll by and she could be able to speak to a man, just as Anne is sitting at the edge of the bench to talk to Capt. Wentworth.

does it happen that anne thinks to herself, "i'm like miss larolles" or does it happen some other way? what type of discourse and what does it suggest about anne or the situation??? ie it seems like a weird comparison for her!

Miss Larolles is described by Anne as "inimitable," or incapable of being copied or imitated. She does, however, compare herself to Miss Laroles. The two characters are said to be similar in their actions, both sitting in strategic places to discretely talk to the objects of their affection.

While attending the concert, Anne comes to mind of Miss Larolles in who she begins to compare herself to becuase she was not engaged in her conversation with Mr. Elliot. "She could not do so, without comparing herself with Miss Larolles...but she still did it" seems to be a form direct discourse.
And again, Miss Larolles is a character from a novel in which has converstaions with others that she is not engaged nor engaged in.

Miss Larolles also wanted to sit on the outside of a bench to be able to talk with people outside her party. Mrs. Larolles, though, does so, because she finds conversation irksome with the people she is with but Anne has a certain man in mind that she wants to talk to.
